Our Musical Director Phillip Ward

Phillip joined us in late January 2007, his musical background is almost as long as he is years old.  In fact Phillip often tells us he has music in his veins not blood.

He is our gentle giant and has a nickname "Twolls".  Briefly he has played the recorder, piano and timpani in the Brighton School Orchestra, town junior orchestra, town senior orchestra also the Camberley Symphony Orchestra, Basingstoke Symphony Orchestra.

His singing follows a similar pathway, school choir, St Mathias Church Choir in Brighton, St Johns Church Choir in Burgess Hill and more recently was a member of the Basingstoke Amateur Theatrical Society for 15 years before he heard of barbershop which he has now been involved in since 1991.

He is now the Assistant Chorus Director of the mens Thames Valley Chorus who have sung in The United States of America in the World Championships representing this country, The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic and Poland. The last two resulted in the chorus winning Gold awards.

Phillip is a quiet, unassuming person ( well, at times )  and we are proud to have him as our MD. Phillip says "if you want solid singing then the men are for you but if its the gentle, sweet, loving sound then the ladies will win everytime".
