A pleasant evening in midsummer and Thameside Harmony came to entertain the assembled retired theatre people at Brinsworth House. The residents always seem to enjoy our visits and take a keen interest in what we are wearing too. This time our summer outfits were white and gold with a touch of sparkle as well.
Our MD Phillip Ward was in sparkling form too, even though it was too hot for one of his famous waistcoats ! The performance began with ‘Yesterday’, a Beatles song. It is a melodious piece and one of our favourites. Some of our songs are sad and gentle and others are famously upbeat, so don’t go to sleep anyone !
‘Going for a Song’ our resident quartet, gave the audience a selection of well known songs beginning with ‘Edelweiss’. These were much appreciated and was a nice surprise for everyone present. More songs from the Chorus itself followed, finishing with a double encore - the Irish farewell song ‘Celtic Blessing’ and one of our new numbers ‘Lullaby in Ragtime’ which has a lovely swing to it.
Afterwards we were invited ‘backstage’ to the Theatre Bar, resplendent with photographs of stars of stage and screen. One of our ladies would have liked to escort Cliff Richard off the premises but decided he might start to age if removed from his rightful environment. Anyway it was lovely to see them all again, and to catch up with old friends. Thank you to everyone at Brinsworth for making us so welcome and for inviting us back again in the festive season. We will be polishing up our winter repertoire specially for you.
