12th June, St. George's Retirement flats, Addlestone.
On a sultry evening in early June, our 'Maestro di Cappella', plus an ensemble of some fourteen singers, arrived almost simultaneously at St. George's, Addlestone. Thameside Harmony were greeted warmly by the organiser, and immediately were able to join the residents in a pre-concert cup of tea - very welcome as it had taken most of us a good hour to get there.
After photos in their lovely garden, the singing began, starting with a Beatles song or two, familiar to most residents. When they had got thoroughly used to our sound, some lively upbeat numbers followed. Then there was a break for more refreshments and time for the raffle to be drawn.
Our chair person Pat was lucky enough to win a prize. She then gave the residents some insights into the workings of the Barbershop melody making, introducing each of the voice parts in turn. Then followed the second part of the singout and we began with 'One More Song' although there were in actuality at least five more including some lively ones which had some of the residents almost dancing in their seats. Entertaining them was a lot of fun and Thameside Harmony very much hope we will be invited back to sing to them again in the not too distant future.
