Session Four
Special Guests: LABBS Chair and area Representative - Jacqui Edwards
Presentation judge and coach - Alison Zdzlowski
Also present were guests and family members of the 'Ladies in Harmony'.
Almost everybody who continued on from weeks 2 and 3 was with us again. Mike got us all warmed up with his vocal exercises, we 'mooed' all the way up the minor scale and down again. The rhythmic clapping exercise was very tricky but an excellent wake-up call to the singing part of the brain.
Our Chorus Director got everyone to sing 'One More Song' a few times, and then it was off to Section Practice in our various parts, this time for the new people to have a go at 'Celtic Blessing'. When all the Sections re-assembled, we gave the new song a try, and it sounded lovely.
The company then had a break and a rest, and much refreshed by water and some mini Easter eggs, we were all introduced to our guest Alison Zdzlowski from 'Green Street Blues'. Her lively personality contributed to the swaying effect which enhanced 'Lullaby in Ragtime'. We then sang 'Wonderful World' and Alison focussed on improving the tuning up at the beginning, which became much crisper as a result.
Now came the moment which our Chorus Director and the 'Ladies in Harmony' had been waiting for, the whole Chorus singing 'Celtic Blessing' and 'One More Time' all together. It sounded fantastic, a credit to Phillip and everyone who helped with the Course.
Jacqui Edwards had some encouraging words to say, telling us about the sorority (sisterhood) of Barbershop Singers and how there were 2000 or nearly in her area.
At last it was Finale time, and we gave them 'Alexander's Ragtime Band' at full volume. An enormous circle was formed, we sang to the three birthday girls present followed by a hearty rendering of our going home song. We all had a very enjoyable evening and we look forward to all potential new members returning again in the coming weeks.
